Wales seeking 'cutting edge' renewable technology

Renewable energy technology development company Wave Dragon has unveiled plans to install the world's largest wave power generator off the coast of Wales, according to reports.

It is hoped that the project when fully online will provide power to between 2,000 and 2,500 homes.

By 2025 Welsh officials hope to be completely self-reliant for energy production and even wish to export their excess production capacity.

Much of this energy will come from wave generation, although there are plans to build substantial windfarms in the area as well.

Iain Russell, company owner of Wave Dragon, said: "The funding dried up in Denmark so we started looking elsewhere. We also discovered how much more wave energy there is [in Wales] than in the North Sea."

In related news, Wave Dragon submitted its environmental impact statement to Defra and will await its response before proceeding with its wave energy conversion programme.
